The Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) movement at TAFE was recognised by JIPM (Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance) for TPM Excellence in Category A for the year 2011, certainly a commendable achievement by the TPM Team and yet another landmark for TAFE, in its pursuit of excellence.
The TPM journey began at TAFE Sembiam Plant in May 2007 and the TPM kick off took place in April 2008. Our efforts during the TPM journey had been made enjoyable with the introduction of new tools for management in line with the JIPM TPM framework. This helped us deliver superior quality at low cost, cut down probability of complaints, reduce manufacturing lead time and new product development time, make our people more conscious about safety and to create a safe and pollution free work environment; and definitely enhanced the knowledge and skills of our production and maintenance team.
Once again, congratulations to the entire TPM Team for this prestigious recognition!
It is very important to have the right balance between work and health. Keeping this in mind a healthcare talk for TAFE Head Office employees was organized in April at the Hande Medical Centre, Nungambakkam, Chennai. The employees could also avail a free of cost Blood Pressure and Random Blood Sugar test, right before the session.
The highly interactive session led by Dr. Rajiv Dorai, centered on first aid and emergency care, and how to address situations in emergencies such as cardiac problems. It also included a discussion on modern life style and medical problems arising due to it.
The employees showed an active participation in the session with keen questions relating to life style correction and methods for dealing with ‘life on the go’.
Ensuring our customers have access to the best TAFE Parts is our mission and we believe that constant product improvement will help us achieve this goal. Our field staff have constantly and continuously recommended branding of TAFE parts to prevent duplication and production of spurious parts in the market. An assurance from our side would positively enhance the product value.
Incorporating the TAFE Logo, Monogram and part number on the product would certify the authenticity and genuineness the product.
We have a wide product range of gears, oil seals and, rubber products and had to chose a single product to start with; we picked the oil seal. We collaborated with Fenner India and after a year and a lot of brain storming we identified the right machine for Laser printing on the oil seal.
Mr. Bhat, Associate Vice President of Parts Department inaugurated operations on the new oil seal printing machine on Monday of Nov 2011, in the presence of Mr. Ravishankar, the Marketing Head of Fenner and Mr. Edward Balasingh, the Plant Head. It was an enriching and fulfilling moment to see the products roll out of the machine with our Logo, Monogram and our part number.
